How to Feel Polished and Put Together Without Makeup
Recently I gave up makeup for a week.
But, this was literally just because I ran out of foundation and didn’t have time to run to the store. During this accidental experiment, I realized that even if I don’t give up wearing makeup completely, I should probably be wearing it less often. Because wow did my skin improve after I gave it a chance to breathe.
This has become my little routine on days when I don’t have anything special going on, but I still want to look polished and put together. It allows me to use less synthetic products, while still feeling feminine and confident!
Get clean – On days where I’m not wearing makeup, I never skip showering, brushing my teeth, or washing and styling my hair.
Look Awake – Gently tapping your face and pinching your cheeks gets the blood flowing and adds a lot of color (it sounds silly but it works.) Also if you have puffy eyes in the morning, hold two cold spoons to your eyes for about a minute to reduce swelling. Store spoons in freezer so they are ready when needed.
Skin – Exfoliating gets rid of all the dead skin reveals the bright, new skin that was hiding underneath. This adds color and gives a natural glow. I like to use a homemade sugar scrub in the shower and scrub down my face and neck.
Lips – I exfoliate my lips using a toothbrush which makes them smooth and enhances their natural color. Then I dab a little coconut oil or olive oil on to keep them hydrated.
Brows – Getting my eyebrows cleaned up makes me feel like I’ve had a full blown makeover. They can be waxed professionally or tweezed at home, but no matter what every morning I pluck stray hairs and brush eyebrows upwards for a polished look.
Lashes – I always curl my lashes even when I skip mascara. For a curl that lasts all day, first heat up eyelash curler with a hairdryer. Its the same idea as curling your hair – using a cold curling iron would be useless, so why do that for your eyelashes?! Point hairdryer directly between the opening that clamps down on lashes for about 10-20 seconds. Before using test the heat on sensitive skin, like your inner forearm or even your lips – don’t just use your fingers because they are much tougher than the delicate skin around your eyes. Whenever I do this the curl lasts for at least 12 hours, but sometimes up to 24 hours. This step is important because it makes me look more awake and helps people see my eyes better!
